I am a certified Birth Works Doula as well as a Licensed Massage Therapist- specializing in prenatal, labor and postpartum massage. I was born and raised in Little Rock. After living in Northwest Arkansas for eight years, I returned back with my family in 2006, and became involved with Birth Works right away. My husband and I have three beautiful children, Eli, Kyah, and our newest addition, Hobbes.
My first birth experience with my son was in the hospital, complete with all the routine interventions. In the end, I had a healthy baby boy, but a terrible birth experience. A year later, I was invited to attend a close friend’s home birth. As I witnessed my friend give birth to her son in a gentle, loving environment, I was simply amazed at the difference from my own experience and what a beautiful event birth can be. I took a doula certification training through DONA shortly after that. It was there where I first began to learn about the perfect way a woman’s body works in labor, and all the options a woman had in the hospital-options I wish I had known about in my own birth! Since then, I have been privileged to help with numerous births in the home and hospital, and have had two wonderful home birth experiences!
I realized firsthand what an enjoyable, empowering experience giving birth can be when you take charge of your own body and seek to have the kind of birth that is just right for you. I love guiding women and their families through preparing for this life-changing event, and helping them to fully enjoy and appreciate this special time in their life.

Holly was born in Memphis with midwives in the hospital- one of the first births of this sort in the state. She was raised with an inherent trust in the birthing process and while attaining a Bachelor’s degree from Hendrix she learned what a Doula was as she ushered the life-changing delivery of her very first client. Holly became involved in Birth Works in 2000, completed her first degree, and went on to graduate UAMS nursing school as an RN- all the while continuing to help women learn about and experience more natural forms of childbirth. After becoming a certified Birth Works Doula, teaching childbirth classes, and working in Labor and Delivery at Baptist Little Rock she continues to hone her skills at assisting families in making decisions, advocating for their positions and accomplishing the goals for satisfying births of their children.

I have admired birth since I was first invited to a friend’s home birth in 1997. Since then, I have had 6 births of my own, and attended friend’s births before working with Birth Works Doula Services.
With my first pregnancy, the excitement was almost overwhelming! I spent nine months reading every book I could about different childbirth methods and nutrition. The more I learned, the more my love for pregnancy and childbirth grew, and it continues to grow to this day. After several years of studying about pregnancy and birth being a loved pastime, I decided to become a doula to put my passion into practice.
Each birth and every family is unique, and I love the challenge of adapting to each individual situation. I have a special place in my heart for VBACs, and have been so inspired by the women I have witnessed overcome the doubts placed on them and have the victory of physiological birth. I believe as women our bodies are perfectly designed to be life-givers, and I am grateful to be a part of your unique miracle.

My interest in birth began in 2009 when I became pregnant with my first child, Cedar Waxwing Izora Waggoner. Throughout pregnancy I familiarized myself with the miracle of growing this beautiful being that my husband and I created and the process of bringing her into the world. My homebirth, despite its challenges, was a beautiful experience that enriched the already strong relationship that my husband and I had. I am a strong believer in family centered births that involve all elements of the unit that will look after and love the new addition to your family.
I trust a mother’s body to confidently bring a new being into her arms, but I have seen the advantages of having the support and loving touch of doula. Each birth will have hurdles to overcome and the presence of a supportive birth team that you trust can make whatever comes your way part of the miracle of your birth.

I became involved with Birth Works in the spring of 2009. I was preparing to apply to medical school with the intention of becoming an obstetrician, but I was often conflicted about this path. I wanted to provide women with birth choices, support, and good care; however, I also felt that I would not fit into a culture where, based on my experiences shadowing doctors and nurses throughout high school and college, interventions were often the norm rather than the exception. One evening, I happened to see “The Business of Being Born”- before this, I was not aware that midwives and doulas were still in practice. That was exactly the kind of support I wanted to provide! I contacted Birth Works soon thereafter.
While training as a student doula, I felt I was finally fulfilling my true purpose. I saw clearly what I had intuitively known all along- women did not need any instructions, they did not need any coaching, they did not really need anything but a safe and loving environment. A woman’s body inherently contains the knowledge of childbirth. She knows what to do. Near the end of my training, I gave birth to my son at home with a midwife, and it fully reinforced how the amazing process of childbirth is something women’s bodies are adapted to do.
I feel the work of a doula is reminding each woman of just that- you already know what to do. By holding the space for a mother to voice her birth vision and work with her in the realization of that vision is just the beginning of an empowering journey to motherhood. Helping mothers to grow in their knowledge of and trust in the process is so special to me. I love helping mothers, partners, and family members prepare for their birth, because each birth is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to welcome a unique individual into the world.
